HONG KONG, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Some U.S. congressmen who are confusing right and wrong and inciting violent crimes are the "black hands" behind the violent extremists in Hong Kong, a spokesperson of Office of the Commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region said on Wednesday.

"The concerned U.S. congressmen who are confusing right and wrong and inciting violent crimes have shown by their words and deeds that they are the black hands behind the violent extremists," the spokesperson said.

The remarks were made in response to recent fallacies made by U.S. politicians including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senator Marco Rubio.

Violent crimes are continuously escalating in Hong Kong recently, with rioters taking extreme measures to paralyze the airport, smashing properties and committing arson, besieging police stations, brutally biting off the finger of a police officer, brazenly throwing petrol bombs at police stations and causing severe burns to a police officer, and even attacking police officers with large-caliber high-powered shooting devices, said the spokesperson.

On Tuesday, the mobs even committed extremely violent acts such as illegally detaining and assaulting a traveler and a reporter, violently resisting law enforcement actions of the police, assaulting police officers, and obstructing police cars and ambulances, the spokesperson said.

In the face of these serious violent crimes that crossed the bottom line of law, morality and humanity, the U.S. politicians, for their own political interests, brazenly acted as the "umbrella and spokesperson" for the violent extremists, and unscrupulously defamed the Hong Kong police force, who have been enforcing law in a restrained and professional manner under unprecedented pressure, the spokesperson said, adding that this will be denounced by all the Chinese people, including the 7 million Hong Kong compatriots.

"The anti-China forces that intend to destabilize Hong Kong should never underestimate our firm will and capability to safeguard the national sovereignty and security and to maintain Hong Kong's prosperity and stability," the spokesperson stressed.

"Hegemonists will pay a heavy price if they act arbitrarily on the soil of others. Any illegal and criminal act will be severely punished by law," the spokesperson added.
