Man, this is an enthralling read Jonathan! Simultanously thrilling and sobering with the big picture and details - a la The Emerald Mile and Cadillac Desert. We humans have loved and been drawn to the Colorado Plateau for a long time, but as the tree rings show us, it can only sustain so many of us for so long at any one time. I wish every resident, visitor, and folks contemplating a move to the Southwest understood this situation and it informed our collective decisions.
Glen Canyon Dam is a great example of human hubris. In one or two centuries, a mere eyeblink in geologic time, it may merely be a curious tourist attraction, leading observers to muse "What WERE they thinking?"
