Netflix has unveiled an enormous slate of 40 film and TV titles targeting the fast-growing Indian streaming market at a gala event held Wednesday in Mumbai.
Dubbed “See What’s Next India 2021,” the gathering was hosted by Netflix’s top two executives in the country, Monika Shergill, vp of content for Netflix India, and Srishti Behl Arya, director of international original film. The duo took turns introducing the several dozen projects, including films, series and documentaries.
“Our upcoming lineup features more variety and diversity than we have seen before,” said Shergill. “From the biggest films and series, to gripping documentaries and reality, and bold comedy formats, we are taking our next big leap in India to bring you more than 40 powerful and irresistible stories from all corners of the country.”

Netflix’s big investment into India comes amid increasing competition between both global and local platforms to tap into the country’s growth potential for online video. The populous and content-rich country is already Disney+ Hotstar’s largest subscriber market in Asia by far, and Amazon has made the territory a priority for its Prime Video for years as it seeks to carve out market share there for its core e-commerce business.
Netflix’s 40-title slate will have it teaming with a who’s who of powerhouse Indian production entities, including Reliance Entertainment, Viacom18 Studios, T-Series, Endemol Shine India, Emmay Entertainment, Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP and Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment.
Some of the projects in the lineup were previously known — such as Chaitanya Tamhane’s The Disciple (produced by Alfonso Cuarón) and Ivan Ayr’s Milestone — but most are new. (The complete list of titles is below)
Feature films run the gamut from romantic dramas (Bulbul Tarang, produced by Reliance) to family drama (Sardar Ka Grandson, made by T-Series and Emmay), murder mystery (Haseen Dillruba), sports-based rom-com (Jaadugar), gangster flicks (Jagame Thandhiram), and anthology films (Ajeeb Daastaans).
On the documentary side, highlights include Searching For Sheela, which pursues the story of Ma Anand Sheela, widely known from Netflix’s hit doc series Wild Wild Country.
And on the series front, there are crime thrillers — the second season of SK Global’s hit Delhi Crime; Aranyak, about a cop investigating the disappearance of a tourist in a small Himalayan town; Imtiaz Ali’s crime drama She; and Mai, about a woman who gets pulled into the world of dirty politics and white-collar crime — plus plenty of dramas, such as Endeavor Content and Chernin Entertainment’s Bombay Begums, school drama Kota Factory, and Masaba Masaba, set in the glamorous world of Bollywood.
For film buffs, there is also the scripted series Ray, which sees in-demand contemporary directors Srijit Mukherji, Vasan Bala and Abhishek Chaubey reinterpret the stories of Indian filmmaking legend Satyajit Ray.
Here is a look at all the projects highlighted by the streaming giant.
