One of the first woman of colour to helm a major punk band in the 1970s, X-Ray Spex, Poly Stryene’s lyrics have been described by Bill Bragg as “a slap in the face” to male artists and journalists.

The new film follows Poly Styrene’s daughter Celeste Bell as she explores her mother’s artistic legacy, and features new interviews, research, music and previously unseen archival material.

As well as interviews from Thurston Moore, Vivienne Westwood, Glen Matlock, Kathleen Hanna and Paul Dean, extracts from Poly Styrene’s diary have been narrated by actress Ruth Negga.

The film follows Celeste Bell and author Zoë Howe’s 2019 book exploring the legacy of Poly Styrene, Dayglo!.
