We'll be having two Fire Over Heaven concerts in April to make up for the canceled concert in January. The first will be Thursday, April 7th featuring a trio with guitarist Bentley Anderson, violist Joanna Mattrey and poet No Land, and a solo set from electronic musician and visual artist Zeljko McMullen. Anderson, Mattrey and No Land have appeared together in many different configurations, this trio being just one in a family of intersecting constellations. Anderson's guitar playing can suggest both the rough angularity of No Wave as well as the spacious flow of the best improvisers. Joanna Mattrey has become a much in demand violist in the last few years often appearing with fellow string players in groupings that focus on the textural/spectral qualities of bowed strings and their preparations. No Land seems equally at home at the Poetry Project and in the Vision Festival scene, working at the intersections of free jazz, politics, image making and disembodied poetics... Some of you may remember Zeljko McMullen from the ParisLondonWestNile collective or perhaps caught his recent 8 hr hand painted film/ambient music epic at Roulette. He won't have quite that long here, but the interplay of the visual and sonic is sure to be strong stuff.
