CHANDIGARH: Leader of Rajput Karani Sena, Suraj Pal Amu, who had earned notoriety last year by announcing Rs 10 crore for beheading actress Deepika Padukone and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the movie "Padamvat", is back in Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) as its spokesperson.
As per the letter issued to Amu by the BJP’s state unit president, Subhash Barala, the resignation tendered by him has been rejected.
"You are hereby requested to take the responsibilities of party's spokesperson like earlier," says the October 5 letter issued by Barala to Amu.
He had led a campaign in November 2017 against the release of the movie alleging that historical facts have been distorted by the film makers by showing the Rajput queen in bad light.
Later when the movie was released in January 2018, a frenzied mob had attacked a school bus in Gurugram.
Haryana police had to provide protection to all the cinema hall owners who were screening the movie 'Padmavat' in the state. Amu, who was leading the campaign against the movie on behalf of Karani Sena, and around 100 others were taken into preventive detention. The state had to deploy 54 companies of state reserve police to ensure no untoward incident happens in the state during screening of the movie.
