(Florence-AP) April 3, 2007 - Authorities say the former police chief and town judge in McBee will spend at least 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to allowing people to give the town money, automobiles or other items in exchange for dropping criminal charges.

A spokesman for Attorney General Henry McMaster says former chief Joseph McLemore and former judge Fred Stephens pleaded guilty Friday to misconduct in office.

Mark Plowden says the men were sentenced to five years in prison, suspended to 90 days in jail, and three years of probation.

They faced up to 10 years in prison.
