A prominent lawyer has accused the Open University of “Stalinism” after it removed a comment he made about transgender women.
Alistair Bonnington, 68, a former legal adviser to the BBC, posted a contribution about proposed hate crime laws in Scotland on an online forum operated by the university.
Mr Bonnington, a student of English literature at the OU, argued that the bill would “make it a crime for anybody to deny that a ‘trans’ woman (ie a man) was a real woman”.
He added: “It looks like feminists in Scotland can look forward to incarceration.”
Referring to JK Rowling, the Harry Potter author, who in June tweeted that “erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It
