More Democrats denied that former President Donald Trump won the 2016 election than the people who claimed President Joe Biden wasn’t legitimately elected in 2020, but the Democrat and corporate media didn’t bother lying that American democracy was crumbling then.
A new poll from The Washington Post asked respondents, “Regardless of whom you supported in the 2020 election, do you think Joe Biden’s election as president was legitimate, or was he not legitimately elected?”
Nearly 70 percent of respondents testified that the 2020 election that resulted in President Joe Biden assuming office was legitimate. Approximately 29 percent admitted they did not believe the legitimacy of the election results.
Corporate media have constantly used poll numbers like these, paired with the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, to claim that Republicans concerned about election integrity are engaging in a so-called “bloodless, legalized form” of “insurrection.”

In 2020, Democrats called Sen. Josh Hawley’s election concerns a “coup attempt” after they objected to every GOP certification this century. But in 2016, multiple House Democrats attempted to object to the electoral votes from several states naming Trump as the presidential victor. These representatives cited concerns over the now-disproved Russia hoax and potentially “hacked” voting machines but were ultimately overruled by then-Vice President Biden, who repeated that objections were required to be in writing and signed by someone from each chamber of Congress.
Prominent Democrats such as former President Jimmy Carter and failed Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton supported the theory that Trump was illegitimately elected. Even one in three House Democrats boycotted the Republican’s inauguration celebrations in 2017.
This Democrat distrust in the election quickly spread to the public, and when 42 percent of respondents claimed that President Donald Trump’s election was not legitimate in the same Washington Post poll question in 2017, there wasn’t a peep of concern for democracy from anyone in the corporate media.
Furthermore, when leftists who bought into the Democrats’ massive Russia hoax took to the streets on Trump’s inauguration day, corporate media ignored the violence or tried to justify it. More than 200 people were arrested on Jan. 20, 2017, after they rioted in the streets of Washington, D.C., and other U.S. cities, vandalized vehicles and storefronts, set a limo on fire, and injured police officers who tried to quell the violence.
Democrats and the media never actually cared about the crumbling of democracy or the rise of political violence in response to elections, but that hasn’t stopped them from using the 2020 election and last Jan. 6 as an excuse to smear the GOP and justify witch hunts against their political opponents.
