Garin Pirnia was raised on a healthy diet of MTV and Top 40 radio in the suburbs of Dayton, Ohio. But one day she realized she wanted to make movies, so she moved to Hollywood. After realizing they just didn’t give out three-picture deals on Sunset Blvd., she decided to move back to the Midwest. After a traumatic stint in Chicago, Garin’s currently based in Covington, Kentucky, which Nick Offerman once proclaimed “the Brooklyn of Cincinnati.”

Besides being a journalist, Garin is also a screenwriter and author. She’s published two books: The Beer Cheese Book, and Rebels and Underdogs: The Story of Ohio Rock and Roll. A book about women film directors is on the way. Her wacky horror-comedy screenplays–including one about a uterine fibroid that devours Cleveland and men–have won many awards.
