Our Nation's forward progress is in jeopardy!

Right-wing extremists are going all out to recall Governor Newsom. Lacking any crimes or accusations of impropriety, they are trying to punish the Governor for following the advice of scientists to promote mask-wearing and social distancing. Let's be honest, though, this recall campaign is not about the Governor's handling of COVID.  It's about an anti-democratic, political attack launched by the Republican Party who is exploiting the fear and pain of the COVID pandemic to claw back power after being rejected by the American people in the 2020 election.

For women, communities of color, immigrants, and the LGBTQ+ community, in particular, the stakes couldn't be higher. Replacing Governor Newsom with a Republican would expose women's health; LGBTQ+ rights;  racial, social, gender, and economic justice; environmental protection; public health and safety; and voting rights to the same attacks that have been committed by right-wing Republican extremists all over the country.

As we begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel of this pandemic, there could not be a worse time to disrupt our state leadership. Governor Newsom is laser-focused on managing a record-breaking vaccination sprint, bringing relief to our communities, reopening our schools, and revitalizing the economy. Recalling him now  would create chaos and turmoil and send California backward in the fight to defeat this virus.

The truth is that our nation barely survived four years of tyranny under Republican rule that ended in an epidemic of  racist attacks, the highest unemployment since the Great Depression, a siege on our Capitol and our democracy, and an unchecked pandemic that has killed more than 500,000 Americans. If we do not want the same thing to happen in California, then we must all unite to oppose the recall of Governor Newsom.

We strongly urge you to take action - - use your voice to oppose this attack on our state. Do not buy into the partisan power grab of a desperate Republican Party. Instead, join the Women Against the Recall (WAR) and  #StandWithNewsom against the extremists who want to tear apart our state, so we can defeat COVID and continue to support leaders who align with Californians' values. The work of making California the most inclusive, progressive state in the nation continues, but only with your help.
