Microsoft is dedicated to making Microsoft Edge the best browser for shopping. With features like coupons, price comparison, price history, and ratings and reviews, Microsoft Edge helps shoppers be confident in their purchase and their purchase price. With buy now, pay later, Microsoft is piloting a program to offer a financing option at checkout for anyone who needs payment options beyond credit and debit cards. 

Buy now, pay later is a short-term financing option that allows you to break up the payment of purchases into installments provided by Affirm, Klarna, and Zip (previously Quadpay), three 3rd party loan servicers. 

Notes: 

  • Microsoft is not involved in providing the loan and does not collect a fee for connecting shoppers to loan providers.

  • Terms, conditions, and details of the loan and repayment are available through Affirm, Klarna, and Zip.

  • Availability

    • Buy now, pay later is currently available only in the United States. This feature is not available for work or school accounts (Azure Active Directory (AAD) customers).

    • Financing is only available to shoppers who are at least of the age of legal majority where they live (which is currently 18 years old, in most cases). Certain loan providers may require that shoppers have a mobile number from the US or US territory. Others may require that shoppers reside in the US or US territory.

  • Affirm

    • Affirm's purchase range is between $50 and $30,000 USD. See Affirm's terms of service and privacy policy for more details. Financing plans offered by Affirm through features such as a digital wallet or browser extension may vary from the financing plans offered directly on the merchant's website.

    • Payment options through Affirm are subject to an eligibility check and are provided by these lending partners: affirm.com/lenders. Options depend on your purchase amount, may vary by merchant, and a down payment may be required. See affirm.com/licenses for important info on state licenses and notifications.

  • Klarna

    • Klarna's purchase range is between $35 and $5,000 USD. See Klarna's terms of service and privacy policy for more details. CA resident loans made or arranged pursuant to California Finance Lenders Law. 

    • Klarna may charge a service fee, generally $2. Details will be determined and disclosed by Klarna at time of purchase.  

    • Payment options through Klarna are subject to eligibility checks and residence verification. Additional terms and conditions may apply. One-time cards are issued by WebBank. Other CA resident loans at select merchants are made or arranged pursuant to a California Financing Law license. Please see Klarna's terms of service for more details. 

  • Zip

    • Zip's purchase range is between $35 and $1,000 USD. See Zip’s terms of service and privacy policy for more details.

    • Zip is offering a free trial period for shoppers purchasing through the Microsoft Edge browser. During this period, a single shopper can finance multiple purchases without being charged the Zip service fee. After the free trial period ends, Zip will offer one free transaction to every new Zip user that signs up or logs in for the first time during checkout with Microsoft Edge.

Frequently asked questions about buy now, pay later on Microsoft Edge

There are currently two ways to use buy now, pay later:

  • On eligible Express Checkout sites, select Other ways to pay and choose Affirm, Klarna, or Zip from the available options.

  • At checkout, select where you enter your credit card number and choose Affirm, Klarna, or Zip in the dropdown list.

Buy now, pay later is only available in the autofill dropdown at checkout and on eligible Express Checkout sites. To turn off the buy, now pay later option at checkout:

  • Go to Settings and more Settings  > Profiles Payment info, and turn off Show Buy now, pay later option on sites when you shop.

Your financial or banking institution may charge fees if scheduled recurring electronic payments or debits are rejected or unsuccessful. Please check with your financial or banking institution for more information on the fees imposed by them.

Affirm offers customers the ability to pay for their purchase over time by making 4 biweekly interest-free payments—no fees attached. Depending on your purchase amount, you may have the option of monthly payments with an interest rate. Details will be determined and disclosed by Affirm at time of purchase.

There are multiple benefits to choosing Affirm at checkout.

  • Quick and easy—get a real-time decision on a loan in minutes.

Once you confirm your purchase is eligible for return, the merchant will send a refund to Affirm. The refunded amount will show up in your loan timeline over the following 3–10 business days, and your loan balance will be updated accordingly. Check out Affirm's refund policy for more details. 

You will not be charged. If you do change your mind, you may return to complete checkout at a later point in time. Note that the payment terms of your original approval may apply when selecting Affirm again.

Currently buy now, pay later includes installment loans through Zip.  Loans are typically repaid in four installments over 6 weeks, and Zip generally charges a $1 fee per installment. Exact details of your loan will be determined by Zip at the time of purchase.

Zip is offering a free trial period for shoppers purchasing through the Microsoft Edge browser.
