Tippah Grand Jury returns indictment on Eaton in Trooper killing

A Tippah County Grand Jury has returned an indictment in the 2018 shooting death of State Trooper Josh Smith.

The Grand Jury returned a murder indictment against Troy Eaton as opposed to the capital murder charge the state was originally seeking.

The Grand Jury also indicted him on the charge of attempted first-degree murder in the shooting of Ricky Dale Vick.

Eaton faces the possibility of life in prison if convicted on the murder charge.
