TREMONTON — Three people suffered minor injuries Friday and several homes were evacuated due to a large fire at a meatpacking plant.

The fire at West Liberty Foods, 705 N. 2000 West in Tremonton, started in the facility’s utility room about 5:30 a.m., according to Tremonton fire officials. The cause of the fire remained under investigation Friday.

Due to initial concerns of ammonia tanks exploding, several nearby homes were evacuated for several hours.

Three employees suffered minor burns to their hands and face, according to the fire department. One was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The other two drove themselves in their own vehicles.
