Cedar Rapids firefighters responded to a fire Saturday morning on the roof of the General Mills food processing plant.

Cedar Rapids firefighters responded to a fire Saturday morning on the roof of the General Mills food processing plant.

The fire broke out around 3:45 a.m. at the General Mills manufacturing site at 4800 Edgewood Road SW, according to the Cedar Rapids Fire Department.

Steam and smoke were visible near a a spot where a vent stack makes contact with the roof, and thermal imaging confirmed high heat below their position.

Firefighters removed roofing material and found an active fire working its way through the ceiling and traveling with the vent stack.

Using attack lines connected to on-site water supplies, crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire. They moved quickly to vent the roof and ensure fire had been contained.

No employees or firefighters were injured in the incident. The cause remains under investigation.
