Here are 3 tips I would recommend when preparing for a podcast interview: 1/ send a personal video - two days before the interview, send a video letting them know how excited you are about speaking with them 2/ play favorite song – on the pre-interview form, ask what their favorite song is. Then, when they log in for the interview, they immediately hear their favorite song playing. I do this for my guests and it gets a smile on their face every time. 3/ give a compliment –giving a compliment makes other people feel good and makes them want to be around you. Many people will tune in to a podcast because they feel like they are hanging out with the host and the guests. But to conduct a great interview, there has to be good rapport.

Podpage handles 95% of my podcast website needs. Once I upload my episode to Buzzsprout, the episode page automatically gets uploaded onto Podpage (InnovatorsCanLaugh.com) via an RSS feed. Everything from the show's artwork, title, and description gets transferred over. The only thing that doesn't is the show transcript and the YouTube video link.

Ditch the hosting platforms. If you host a podcast that is in the B2B space, the large networks don't want you. Why? Because they want podcasts that have 10,000 monthly downloads or more. And chances are, that's not you (if you are in the B2B/SaaS/Tech/Marketing space) Instead, join a niche podcast media network like https://www.b2bpodpros.com. As a podcast, it's no risk since you can still secure your own sponsorships. But if you join, you will not only join a community of B2B podcasters, but also receive sponsorship opportunities that are far more lucrative than a podcast hosting platform would ever pay you.

Kind of embarrassing, but when I first started out, I would put pillows around my laptop to help drown out the background noise.

Post interview hack: Send the guest a calendar placeholder for the date the show is expected to go live. Tell them they can coordinate the show drop date with their content team. (do this in addition to sending a thank you note)

Sometimes I will try and start the conversation in the guest’s native language since the startup founders I interview are all European. 😊 ▶ don’t be heavily informational – when people try and do content, the want to focus on educating people. But the truth is, many people will tune in to a podcast because they feel like they are hanging out with the host and the guests.
